The Three Intentions

When I embarked on this journey with “Coffee with an Indian,” I anchored our narrative in three fundamental pillars. These aren’t just words or frivolous gestures; they’re the essence of how I approach every conversation and topic on the show. Together, we dive deep, from understanding the roots and the intricate details, all the way to the ripples they create in the world around us.

1. To Go Where Others Won’t

The world often clings to comfortable narratives, overlooking subjects that might challenge our deepest convictions. With “Coffee with an Indian,” we dare to journey where many choose not to tread. Our mission is to unveil those under-represented topics which provoke and disrupt our preconceived notions, aiming to shed light on unseen facets of our intercultural fabric.

2. To Make Relatives

The perception of Indian Country has frequently been one of isolation—distinct and detached from global dialogues. Yet, Coffee with an Indian seeks to be involved in dispelling this narrative. By welcoming guests from both Indigenous and various global communities, we cultivate conversations that highlight shared experiences and understandings, as well as the richness found in differing perspectives. Above all, we’re in the business of making relatives.

3. To Share Indigenous Worldviews

Indian Country has been sidelined or diminished in the larger discourse. The aim of CWAI is to examine the wisdom, insights, and philosophies of our cultural outlook, presenting them to a worldwide audience.
